After having cancelled plans for Shake the Hand last year due to the pandemic, the Slow Food Columbus Board has continued to find ways to celebrate good, clean, and fair food from within and outside of central Ohio. This year, we are excited to host our thirteenth Shake the Hand that Feeds You (or perhaps let's just elbow bump) fundraiser dinner with a food truck twist!

Shake the Hand that Feeds You is the largest fundraiser event that we plan. In particular, it raises funds for our local chapter, which we use to support community gardens/farms and food-related events throughout the year. Regardless of whether you can join us in person, we do have a ticketing option on our event page that provides a mechanism for donating funds to our group.

Our menu is currently being planned by chefs Laura Lee of Ajumama and Hisham Omardien of Hisham's Food Truck. While they will certainly bring their respective Korean street food and South African flavors from off their food trucks and onto the dining table, we've given them free reign to play with available seasonal produce and ingredients. To the greatest extent possible, we will be sourcing ingredients from local/regional farmers and producers.

As the menu comes to fruition, we will include it here, highlighting local partners and Slow Food champions and, wherever applicable, ingredients from Slow Food's Ark of Taste. In the meantime, you can expect a five-course meal complete with dessert, as well as wine offerings from Patrick and Connie of Patrick Allen Selections. Bread service will be provided by Dan the Baker and will include "shaken" butter using Snowville Creamery's heavy cream.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, we will continue to monitor and follow the guidelines, best practices, and local ordinances, in support of the health of our members, guests, and chefs. Our pandemic protocol currently includes limiting capacity and hosting this event outdoors and may include facial coverings, if required, at the time of the event. At this time, our event is scheduled to take place on the surface lot of Lasting Impressions.

Importantly, please note that our event is smaller than years' past, with only 40 paid tickets up for grabs! We encourage you to plan accordingly and purchase your ticket(s) sooner rather than later.

  • Tickets for non-Slow Food members are $125 each; $62.50 for children ages 5-12.

  • SF member pricing is $110/ticket; $55.50 for children 5-12 years old.

  • SF members will be sent an email with a discount code by Thursday, September 16, at 9am, along with early access to the ticketing link. The discount code is good for up to 4 tickets per membership.

  • Remaining tickets will be available at the non-member price for everyone else beginning at noon on September 16th. If you have recently joined/renewed your membership, and did not receive the discount code, please contact the Chapter Leader as soon as possible to make sure you can get the code and purchase your ticket(s) in time. If you join/renew after September 16, there are tickets available, and you would like to attend with member pricing, please contact the Chapter Leader for the code.
